A Relaxing Sunday Morning in Southwest England: Pancakes, Garden, and Self-Care

Good morning!

Today, I’m stepping away from the usual reviews to share something a bit more personal: my simple yet enjoyable Sunday morning routine.

Picture this: it’s a lovely morning in the southwest of England, a perfect blend of clouds and sunshine, with a temperature that’s just right for an outdoor breakfast. The kind of morning that make you to slow down and savor every moment.

We woke up around 9 am today, having stayed up late last night watching few episodes of The Big Bang Theory. This show holds a special place in my heart, even though I never managed to catch the last two seasons. Watching it again transports me to a different era, a time when life seemed simpler and less hurried. It brings back fond memories of when I used to buy each episode on iTunes. There was something special about owning those episodes, waiting eagerly for the next one to be released each week. It was a time when we owned our media, not just rented it. Perhaps it’s just nostalgia, but there’s a part of me that misses that certainty.

As I write this, I’m listening to one of my favorite Spotify playlists, Sunday Morning Coffeehouse. The gentle melodies set the tone for a serene start to the day. Inspired by the tranquility, I decided to whip up what I fondly call my “fluffy pancakes.” I discovered the ultimate recipe on Café Delites, and trust me, they truly are the best fluffy pancakes ever. (Check out the recipe here.)

With the kids still in bed, I had the perfect opportunity to prepare a delightful breakfast for my wife and myself. There’s something profoundly satisfying about making pancakes in a quiet kitchen, the soft sizzle of batter meeting the griddle, the air filling with the sweet scent of impending deliciousness.

We took our breakfast outside to our garden table, a spot that’s become our little haven. The garden is looking lovely these days. While there’s still some work to be done, I’ve recently dedicated a corner to a few potted tomato plants, adding a charming touch to the space.

As we enjoyed our pancakes and coffee, surrounded by the aromatic lavender and the sight of our apple tree full of apples, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of contentment. There’s something magical about these simple pleasures, moments that ground us in the present and remind us of the beauty in our everyday lives.

The kids soon woke up, drawn by the irresistible aroma of pancakes. They came to join us, turning our peaceful morning into a delightful family breakfast. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal with loved ones, everyone chatting and laughing, making the morning even more special.

After breakfast, I indulged in a slow, luxurious skincare routine. Sundays are for self-care, after all. Today’s regimen featured a Korean face mask by Yadah (Daily Green Facial Mask) , followed by a gentle face wash by Blu Atlas, Refreshing Toner by Harry’s, and topped off with the incredible Lit serum from Desavery. I’ve raved about this serum before, and for good reason. It’s not specifically marketed towards men, but it’s a gem of a product that I can’t recommend enough.

With my skin feeling refreshed, it’s time to take Marlow for a walk. There’s something incredibly relaxing about these walks, especially with chill tunes playing through my headphones. Marlow enjoys them just as much as I do, and it’s a perfect way to clear my mind and soak in the beauty of our surroundings.

Today’s plans are blissfully simple: spending time with the kids, who are eagerly counting down the two remaining days of school before their summer holiday begins. It’s a shame that the summer break here in the UK is so short. I firmly believe kids need those two full months of July and August to recharge. The thought of reducing summer holidays even further is simply madness to me. They need that time for their brains to rest and grow, to explore and just be kids.

This evening, I’ll be lending a hand at a friend’s Indian restaurant in Thornbury. He’s been struggling to find delivery drivers, so I offered to help out until mid-August when we head off to France for our holiday. Working from 6 pm to 9 pm four evenings a week is ok, and it’s a great way to support a friend while still managing my blog during the day.

So, there you have it – a glimpse into my Sunday morning. A mix of tranquility and simple pleasures, punctuated by good food, family, and a bit of nostalgia. How was your Sunday morning? Please share with me as I love to know more about my readers. Until next time, may your mornings be filled with peace and your days with happiness.
