My daughter plays football and I'm her biggest fan
Years ago, young girls didn’t have a lot of choices for after school sports. Thankfully the world has changed a lot and in 2018 it’s a whole different story. Football is becoming a very popular activity for young talented girls in the UK. It is clear to see that girl’s football is getting a lot of attention lately (more and more after school clubs offer girl’s football), and the FA has more and more local girl’s football teams.
My eldest daughter Nerea is 10, and always been a big fan of football. She used to train one hour a week at the Gloucestershire FA in Almondsbury, North Bristol. Then they stopped and moved to training girls in schools. But Nerea was always passionate about football and her dream has never changed: to become a professional football player for the England Team! She was often selected to play with her school team, but back in June her PE teacher recommended that she attend a selection day for the new South Gloucestershire county team. And she impressed the team so much that she was selected and now is a player (she likes to be a striker ) for the South Gloucestershire county team.
She trains once a week, and has played five matches so far. She is really motivated and excited especially than now she is the maximum goal scorer in her team. As the South Glos team is made up of young girls from different places in North Bristol, we have met a lot of parents. One of them is a coach for the Emersons Green Girls Football team, and she asked if Nerea would like to join them.
Yesterday, Nerea played for the first time with Emerson’s Green and scored a Hat trick! Honestly I am very impressed by her attitude, her skills and to see how her face is full of happiness when she is on the pitch. I am her biggest fan!
If your daughter is into football I encourage you to find a local team and put her name down. Football for young girl is a huge confidence booster and really shows some Girl Power! It’s so great to see that Girls Football is getting a lot of funding and attention in this country. And it’s so fun meeting parents that share the same passion. If you live in North Bristol you can check the website of the Gloucestershire FA or nationally check the FA website
I honestly recommend you to check in your area, and if your little girl wants to play football, go for it and be proud of her and you will be soon your daughters biggest fan as I am with Nerea.
Nerea’s favourite football player is Ronaldo and she watches a lot of Youtube videos showing his skills! I couldn’t be prouder! Daddies, go for it, it’s really exciting time for young girls and football in this country!
