Review: Edifier W240TN in 2024 – Active Noise Cancellation on a Budget
Looking for new earbuds on a budget? I might have just what you need. If you're after great battery life, solid sound, and a price tag that won't hurt your wallet, the Edifier W240TN might be the answer. At under £80, these earbuds offer a lot of bang for your money. I’ve been using them daily for over a week, and here’s my review.
Unboxing: What's Inside?
As always with Edifier, you get sleek, no-fuss packaging. Inside the box, you’ll find the earbuds housed in a charging case (sadly, no wireless charging here), some leaflets, different-sized eartips in case the standard ones don’t fit, and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable.
Design: Compact and Cool
Credit where it’s due—Edifier knows how to design good-looking earbuds, even at this price point. The W240TN are small, lightweight, and have a premium feel. According to Edifier, the design is inspired by "locomotive pistons," combined with a trapezoidal ring to give them an exclusive, unique look. I’ll let you be the judge of that, but personally, I like them.
The charging case, however, feels a bit basic. Don’t get me wrong—it does the job and has this cool dynamic light feature when charging, but it feels a little generic. That said, for under £80, I’m not expecting miracles. A bonus here is the fast charging: just 10 minutes of charge gives you 2 hours of listening time, which is pretty sweet.
Sound: Punchy and Warm
One thing Edifier consistently nails is sound quality, and the W240TN are no exception. They use Bluetooth 5.3, offering a reliable connection and solid sound. They don’t support Hi-Res Wireless Audio, but unless you're an audiophile streaming from lossless platforms, you likely won’t notice. The bass is surprisingly punchy, and the overall sound signature is warm and full.
For the price, you even get Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and it works well enough. Sure, my Edifier Neobuds Pro 2 offer better ANC, but they also cost nearly twice as much. The ambient sound mode is also decent, making these earbuds versatile, whether you’re commuting or working from a café. If you’re streaming from Spotify or YouTube Music, the W240TN will leave you more than satisfied.
Comfort and Controls
In terms of comfort, the W240TN are perfectly fine for a few hours of listening. What surprised me, though, were the physical buttons for controls (Play/Pause/Next). I’ve never used earbuds with physical buttons before, but I kind of like it. Just be careful not to push too hard, as pressing them in too far could get uncomfortable.
These also have a low-latency mode, so watching Netflix or YouTube is smooth, with no annoying delays. You can manage the earbuds through the Edifier Connect app, but heads up—Edifier now has two apps (Connect and Connex), so make sure you grab the right one, or you might get frustrated if you have multiple Edifier devices like I do.
Final Thoughts
If you're on a budget, the Edifier W240TN is a no-brainer. With up to 25 hours of battery life, fast charging, Active Noise Cancellation, and good sound quality, they offer a lot for under £80. Sure, if you’ve got a higher budget, you can get even better models from Edifier, but for the price, these are a solid choice.
